The RFID Journal Awards are sponsored by the RFID Professional Institute, a global, not-for-profit organization founded by a group of independent RFID industry veterans to promote professionalism in the RFID industry through the development of standardized certification programs. These exams will cover all types of radio frequency identification systems and will be vendor-neutral.

Why is certification needed? First, few (if any) universities and technical colleges offer a degree in radio frequency identification, so there is no means for an employer to know if a candidate possesses the basic knowledge of RFID required for an entry-level position, and without a certification exam, there is no means by which a job candidate can demonstrate knowledge of RFID terms, concepts, systems and applications.

Both companies employing RFID technologies and solution providers value professionals who proactively develop their skills and expertise. One of the best ways for individuals to demonstrate their commitment to skills enhancement is to pursue industry-recognized certifications.

Moreover, attaining professional certifications provides improved career prospects and enhanced earning power. Numerous salary surveys show that possessing an industry-recognized credential can raise a job candidate’s starting salary by as much as 10 percent.

As the RFID industry matures and starts to grow more rapidly, the demand for individuals with industry-recognized RFID credentials will continue to intensify. The RFID Professional Institute aims to foster professionalism through the creation and delivery of standardized certification programs.
